From Lac Leman, Montreux municipality sprawls as far as my eyes could see. From the lowland shores of this beautiful lake towards the hilly terrains that marks the beginning of the towering mountains surrounding Montreux, it is nothing to stop it being described as one of the most spectacular cities in Switzerland.
Worth mentioning also is the stunning view of the Dents-du-Midi peaks across the lake inside the border of France. The view seems to be misty all day long during my two visits, yet I could still see the jagged snow-clad peaks of the behemoth mountains that are best viewed from the waterfront Certainly such mixture of azure-blue waters of Lac Leman and the mountain backdrops make a heavenly combination.
The weather seems to be nice all year round. Hot in the summer and mild in the winter. I could have taken off my sweater if I wanted to. It is said that the mild climate is due to the towering wall of mountains surrounding Montreux which effectively shields the city from extreme winter chills. There are plenty of public parks by the lake side along Quai de la Rouvenaz and Quai ed Jaccoud which can be enjoyed at any day.
There are plenty of beautiful hotels along the shore line, each commanding spectacular views of the lake and the mountains. Almost similar to Lausanne when it comes to general contour of the surrounding, one needs to walk up fairly steep hills to get to the town centre.
